MESSI OUT OF EIBAR CLASH

Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi won’t be able to boost his FIFA Ballon d’Or chances on the final day of this Spanish La Liga season after it was revealed that the Argentine national team skipper will miss the trip to Eibar.

Messi has been rested for the Eibar game with Barcelona no longer able to win the Spanish La Liga title this season. The La Liga title would have been a big boost for the petite Argentine in his quest to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or Award this year. He was third in the rankings for the FIFA Ballon d’Or Award last year behind long-term rival Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus and winner Roberto Lewandowski of Bayern Munich.

Messi and Barcelona were in the hunt for the La Liga title until the penultimate round of games in the competition this season. The Catalans lost the La Liga title following the disappointing 2-1 loss to Celta Vigo at home despite the fact that Messi had given his team the lead for his 30th league goal of the season. He won’t be able to add to that tally when Barcelona take on already-relegated Eibar away from home. The two teams meet in Ipurua on Saturday evening.

Barcelona have relied heavily on Messi this season but it has not been enough with the club resigned to winning only the Spanish Copa Del Rey this season. The little Argentine wizard has the most goals in the La Liga this season and he also has the most shots on target (85) in the competition. In addition, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner also has the most successful dribbles (147) in the Spanish top flight this season.

Messi and Barcelona have watched as the La Liga title will stay in Madrid for at least another season to make it two seasons in a row.
